South America: Machu Picchu & Manu

It's early in the morning and your guide motors the long lean boat through the river. Capybaras and spectacled caiman cruise along the shoreline. You get off the boat onto a floating cabin, which is a "blind." From this vantage point, you can watch large noisy, colorful red and green macaws, peach fronted parrots and other raucous birds work their way down from the branches to consume the clay. While you sleep in lovely screened-in wood-floored cabins, you hear the distant howler monkeys sound like a steady blowing wind as they define their territory. Climb the winding roads by car or on foot to arrive at Machu Picchu, the magical ancient city built high in the Andes. Photograph the beauty of the stone buildings in the early morning light. Visit Manu, the largest jaguar preserve in the world, in hopes of catching a glimpse of the most majestic cat in the Americas.
